With all the construction taking place in Southwest DC and Capitol Riverfront, the area will need more power. Pepco is building a new Waterfront Substation near Buzzard Point to keep up with demand. Pepco expects that without the new substation, the existing Buzzard Point Substation will exceed capacity by 8% in the summer of 2017.
The new Waterfront Substation will be located between 1st & 2nd Streets SW and R & Q Streets SW. The site has already been cleared, and the new substation is expected to be in service by June 2017.
More information on new Pepco Southwest substation is available on Pepco’s website.
